We've just a few weeks left to save Leeds' Green Belt and community greenspaces - can you help us fight for it on your behalf? We have engaged a successful planning barrister to seek to prove Leeds City Council's plan is not legally compliant at the October Public Hearings with the Government Inspector. There's absolutely no need to use YOUR Green Belt and YOUR community greenspaces (allotments, parks, woodlands) in the plan to grow the city - so please give generously and help us prove it!

About the Campaign

Many of YOUR local action groups and community bodies recently united to form Yorkshire Greenspace Alliance (YGA), to fight our own ‘David vs Goliath’ battle.  Housing Developer’s have pots of money to fight to get what they want, plus a planning law written heavily in their favour, whilst YGA is made up of local volunteers who campaign because we care – we have no income, and virtually no rights. After initial fundraising, we have engaged a leading, successful planning barrister to represent for us that Leeds City Council’s Site Allocations Plan is unsound in the way it uses Green Belt. BUT we need to fund the whole process, and that means we need to raise more money, and fast.

We have until October 10th 2017 to raise £10,000 – PLEASE, can you donate to help us fight the Green Belt corner on behalf of citizens of Leeds?

It is extremely urgent – if plans go ahead you will see an unprecedented surge in urban sprawl which will merge your villages and towns – it will increase traffic, cause air pollution, over-load schools, displace wildlife, wreck valued landscapes. There is no need to build on Green Belt, our barrister can prove it.

Leeds City Council didn’t consult communities to create the draft plan for your area, they drew a plan and only then asked your opinion. If you wrote one of the 61,000 objections to those plans… you were ignored. Not only were ALL Green Belt and greenspace sites left in the plan, more were added, and others were increased!

In spite of many years of heartfelt pleas, campaigning and tens of thousands of letters, Leeds have proved that they just don’t listen. We honestly have no choice but to seek legal advice and we are doing it for YOU:-

Aberford – Adel – Alwoodley – Allerton Bywater – Barwick in Elmet – Bramham – Bramhope – Boston Spa – Calverley – Cookridge – Crossgates – Cragg Wood – Farsley – Garforth – Gipton – Guiseley – Halton Moor – Headingley – High Royds – Horsforth – Manston – Mirfield – Kippax – Kirkstall – Lofthouse – Meanwood – Methley – Nether Yeadon – Otley – Oulton – Parlington – Pool – Pudsey – Rawdon – Redhall – Robin Hood – Rothwell – Scholes – Seacroft – Tetley Fields – Tong – Weetwood – Wetherby – Whinmoor – Yeadon

We know that it’s extremely frustrating, as well as completely undemocratic, to be ignored on such a scale. But we cannot lose heart – because it is possible to succeed.  If we succeed with a challenge in Leeds, it will have a major impact on the other Local Authority plans in the ‘Leeds City Region’. If you want to save your Green Belt and green spaces from inappropriate development in; Harrogate, York, Selby, Wakefield, Barnsley, Kirklees, Calderdale, Craven, Bradford and Leeds – please, donate today – we are the ONLY organisation raising funds to save your Green Belt and green spaces, on your behalf.

We can only make a challenge with your financial help. Donate today – together we can save YOUR Green Belt and green spaces.

Our fund is for the sole purpose of raising a legal challenge on behalf of all member groups fighting for their Green Belt or greenspace anywhere in the ‘Leeds City Region’.  All monies raised will be ring fenced to promote further fund raising and to support legal challenges made by YGA.

If you would like to donate in another way than through the YGA donation page, please contact YGA through the Contact Us page. Donations can be made by: –

  • BACS – YGA will provide you with the bank account details
  • Cheque – YGA will provide you with an address for where to post the cheque
  • Cash – YGA will arrange with you how to collect this
  • Standing order – we can set up Standing Order for you.

YGA is unable to set up Direct Debits as the community account we have does not offer this option.

YGA is happy to issue receipts for donations, if this is required.

If you encounter any difficulties in using the donate pages, please let us know through ‘Contact Us’. Thank you.
